Playing around with pattern

I was inspired to start playing around with repeating patterns again. Here's one I whipped up a couple nights ago as I watched nothing happen on Lost again. I wish I had a job running around Hawaii.

Splat Flats 4th Annual Open House! Saturday, October 11th!! 4pm until 10pm! Lots of studios and artists. My studio is on the East Side and it is 35E (third floor)! I will have some munchies, wine and stationery. Maybe a little letterpress demo if I can pull it together. Stop by if you have a chance.

happy thing FIVE: My Circle Templates

I have already waxed poetic about my circle templates in my process post. These little things are really the key to a lot of my hand drawn illustrations. Most of my drawings are based on circles, especially my newer obsession of mandalas.

update: the moving thing

The move into my studio is complete, other than a few odds and ends I keep uncovering around my house. Woo Hoo!!! It took longer than I wanted it to! We started with the most difficult thing possible — my cast iron table-top letterpress, Blu. It weighs over 100 pounds and was not easy to get up to the third floor (no elevator) but it is there in it's new home. I don't want to move it again!

I pretty much have everything put away but things are not quite organized very well. I need to make one more Ikea trip for some bulletin boards, a rug and an office chair. When I get the studio into a little bit better shape I will try and snap some photos.

RedBall Project by artist Kurt Perschke

It's big and Red and roving the streets of Chicago until September 25th. What did I do on my birthday? I went to see a giant red ball. Here's the link to where the RedBall by Kurt Perschke will be next. I love the interactive nature of this sculpture. On September 1st it was at Millennium Park near Pritzker Pavilion and in order to continue forward you had to walk around the big art installation blocking your path. I can't wait to see it in some of the other locations.
